Youth

Youth are welcome to attend any adult sessions. Adults are welcome to attend any youth sessions except labs.
Note that the timing of the youth track is different from the adult’s on both days.

Friday - Youth Labs

Youth aged 12-17 can listen to the Youth Speakers or attend Labs. It is free to listen to the Youth Speakers but Labs require pre-registration with payment. Registrations will not be accepted at the door for Labs. Please see the schedule to determine which lab, if any, that your youth might participate in. Please note that labs may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.

Five Keys to Creating Images with Impact - Photography Lab

Do you love taking pictures? Or have a camera you wish you knew how to use? Join Chenoa for a look at five practical ways you can improve your photo taking skills. We will discuss the rules of composition, shooting for emotional impact and how to stop taking snap-shots & start creating images with impact!

Be sure to bring a camera with a charged battery. Any camera will do. Phones with cameras are acceptable.

Chenoa Casamayor

Chenoa was home schooled from kindergarten through grade twelve. She received her first camera at age twelve and has been taking pictures ever since. She pursued further education through the Institute of Photographic Studies and is self-employed as a wedding and portrait photographer. Let There Be Light Photography has taken her on many adventures, opened doors to ministry opportunities and has brought her full circle to sharing her passion with a new generation of home school students through her Kids with Cameras Program.

Shades n' Shapes - Drawing Lab

Barboria Streibl & Barbori Streibl  |  Biography  |  Cost $5

Join Barboria Bjarne and Barbori Garnet of Sunny Bay Arts in learning to create drawings which come to life using shapes and shading techniques. The subject matter will focus on still life compositions and skills to produce three-dimensional drawings.

Barboria Bjarne Streibl

Barboria Bjarne Streibl is a freelance writer and artist and the owner of Sunny Bay Arts, a company specializing in visual art and photography. When not writing or painting, she works on her urban homestead. She wrote and illustrated ‘Grayson and the Crumbly, Grumbly, Rumbly Cookie‘ written in prose and accompanied by delightful illustrations in gouache, published in March 2015, and ‘Quanny and Danny’, her first picture book in verse about a cute little puppy, raised by a goose, published in February 2014.

Barbori Garnet Streibl

Barbori Garnet Streibl is the owner of two companies, BG Mountain Studio, specializing in Music, and Communications and Public Relations, and Sunny Bay Arts, specializing in Visual Art and Photography. She graduated in 2016 with her Master of Arts in Communications in Public Relations degree and in 2012 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting & Drawing degree. Barbori lives in Calgary, AB, with her family and enjoys being in the beauty and inspiration of the Rocky mountains.

Carmen Zayac

First Aid Basics - Safety Lab

Carmen Zayac  |  Biography  |  Cost $5

This lab will cover the following: staying safe in an emergency scene, dealing with life-threatening hazards, carrying out basic CPR protocols, providing assistance to victims who are choking or bleeding severely, and splinting broken bones. Time permitting, first aid for medical conditions will also be covered (asthma, diabetes, and severe allergic reactions).

Homeschooling mom of three, Carmen Zayac is a fully certified First Aid instructor and has been the First Aid responder for AHEA’s conventions for the past three years.

Margaret Helder

Sheep Eye - Dissection Lab

Margaret Helder  |  Biography  |  Cost $15

We seldom stop to consider how wonderfully designed our bodies are. One of the most obvious examples is our sense of vision. In this hands-on session involving dissection of sheep's eyes, we will discuss what is the function of eyes, how they are designed to accomplish these tasks, and what is the specific role of each component of the eye. We will also consider other eye designs.

Margaret Helder

Margaret Helder, Ph.D. (Botany from University of Western Ontario) and her husband have raised six children. During those years as well she testified on creation in a court case in Arkansas, continues to serve in the Creation Science Association of Alberta, provided hands on science workshops in Edmonton and some surrounding towns, as well as Vernon , B.C. and Perth, Australia. The monthly classes in Edmonton continued for ten years. She has also served as judge for science fairs in several jurisdictions. She declares that as “salt of the earth “ we need good training to look after and appreciate the creation. The process starts with our young children.
